If 70% of the male population was circumcised by 2015, there would be a 14% reduction in the number of new HIV infections in sub-Saharan Africa. Over 20 years, it is estimated that this practice would avert 5.7 million new infections and 3 million deaths
0.05 mm is the approximate thickness of the walls of most latex condoms– a virus such as HIV would therefore have to pass through a barrier around 500 times thicker than itself to reach the outside.
